Video PokerJacks-or-Better.jpg

Ever since the invention of Video Poker in the 1974, it has come a long way to become integral part of all major Casinos. Video Poker is very similar to playing Slots, so much as it is often considered the "smart man's slots". Similar to slots, cards or symbols are randomly generated. But for Video Poker, one is able to hold on to any number of the cards and spin again. Therefore, some thinking is involved, and if played optimally is one of the games with the lowest house advantage.

A game of Video Poker is started by inserting credits into a machine, then typically pushing the ‘Deal' button to draw cards. Normally, 5 faced up cards are given to the player. The player would now have to decide which cards to keep, and which to discard. The discarded cards are then replaced by fresh cards to form the final hand and paid according to the payout table.

The minimum hand for a payout usually starts with a pair of Jacks or better. The better final hand, the better the payout. There are certain progressive Video Poker games which offers payouts for rare hands such as the Royal Flush.
