Casino War's history stemmed from another old card game known as "War".
The Origins of Casino War is still uncertain, However, there is an ongoing legend about the origins of War. Legend has it that during the Middle Ages, when King Arthur ruled, King Arthur would often get tired of jousting as a form of entertainment. One day, When Arthur and Lancelot were together one day, Arthur's wife, Guinevere suggested that they play cards. Arthur wanted a game that is simple to understand and play, and have a military theme to it so that his knights would enjoy the game, thus christening the game as war.
Casino War's popularity rose during the Middle Ages when the plague is plaguing the lands. Many people preferred to stay at home to play board games as entertainment instead of going out. Casino War eventually became one of the many games they play at home because all war needs is a deck of card, and lots of time.
In the non-casino version, the game involves the use of only a single deck. The deck is shuffled, and its cards distributed evenly so that the two players have an equal number of cards. Each player draws a card from the top of their deck, and compares it in the same way casino war compares their cards to see who has the biggest card. The winner gets to keep both his card and the loser's card in his deck.
When a tie happens, each player sets three cards aside face-down, and compares their top cards. The person with the larger card gets all eight cards, six coming from the face-down stash and two from the two cards compared. Both players will keep repeating the same procedure round after round until the point where one player has got all the cards in his deck while his opponent has no cards. When that happens, the player with all the cards wins the game. During the twentieth century, a Las Vegas casino operator noticed that many people enjoyed playing war. Thus, he decided to take the game and modify it so that it can be played in casinos. Instead of one deck, the operator decides to employ six decks. Instead of playing to accumulate all the cards, the operator modifies the things to do when a winner is determined, inputting the element of money and removing the keeping of the card. Finally, he renamed the game, christening it as "Casino War", introduced it as a new casino game, and the rest is history. |
